Riding the Trolley in Krakow
We waited, then boarded
the trolley
Jewish Quarter
all is quiet
no traffic
like a circus ride
or merry-go-round
We went
We went
saw places
where once
they were
now
they're not
Some lived
most perished
all suffered
humiliations
indignitions
of
men hated
not appreciated
for gifts eternal
given humbly
graciously
lavishly
yet not received
Again we round
the flat circle
of tract
where once
Jews lived,
loved,
worked,
prayed
and played
Klesmer
at weddings
happy times
now sad
the tract
endlessly traveled
by the lone
trolley car
