Rhythm
Rhythm
Rhythm
is
communi-
cation
like
a
language
speaks
to bones
All
life
has
rhythm
to it
to it
It's
where
one
knows
it's
own
it's
own
Everywhere
one
goes
rhythm
follows
follows
you
follows
you
like
nose
one
two
three
four
walking
rhythm
is
prose
if you
say it
with
rhythm
then
you'll
know
hands
feet
head
for
if
you've
got
rhythm
you
can't
ask for
anything
more

Night Train to Odessa
Night Train to Odessa
My berth was bottom
three others
strolled in
They clamored
for places
for trip
to begin
They clamored
for places
for trip
to begin
Window was open
could see
birches
fly by
Thousands of trees
white trunks
tall
as the sky
Our train
slowed
for
villages
the poor
went by
Russia's a big
country
multiple acres
passed our eye
passed our eye
Sleep was uneven
we rocked
and rolled
the noise
was clacking
clacking
like drum
roll
flying high
flying high
We came to Ukraine
wheat fields everywhere
Russia's "bread basket"
or so it was told

Nigerian Song
It was late
had just ate
raining
dark
outside
Three of
us
sat in
salon
ceiling fan
on
windows
closed
no
mosquitoes
Malaria's
fear
All's quiet
except
for rain
gently falling
on window panes
Flute
put together
soft notes
come out
beautiful
melody
Nigerian Song

How to Make a Cup of Tea
How to Make a Cup of Tea
When I lived in
England
people
drank tea
not
coffee
It's an art
and starts
with kettle
"put on"
Teapot warmed
tea leaves inside
then boiling water
poured over
leaves
liquefied
Now tea must
brew
this takes
a few
minutes
Five minutes
tops
Tea cups
are next
they must be
warm too
pour tea in
warm cups
this makes
a good
brew
We're almost
ready
but first
you must have
all sorts
of tea cakes
batten burgs
crumpets
scones
strawberry
jam
Don't forget
the cream
double
is best
now pour
the tea
at your
tea party
and you
just
rest.

White Dove
White Dove
Thank you Lord
For the
White Dove
I saw
Flying high
In the sky
His wings
Glistening
As he soared
Up on drafts
Of air
White against
Blue sky
Holy, pure
Secure
In your love

What is there about a Spa
What is there about a Spa
Abano Terme, Italy
What is there about
a spa that makes
one think
"Why this
water
must I drink?
it smells
like sulfur
and it
does stink!
What is there about
a spa that makes
one think
"Why this
hot mud
that must
be rubbed
upon
my body
up and down
arms
legs
now I'm all
brown!"
What is there about a spa
that makes
one think
"Why into this
hot salt water
must I sink?
It makes
me sleepy
it makes
me tired"
as I nod
off
and almost
expire
expire
What is there about
a spa that makes
me glad
to lie upon
this table
while they
massage
my head
back
arms
legs
and feet
slowly, slowly
I realize
that
I'm
asleep
Maybe this is
what there is about a
spa
as I answer my own
question
waiting for
tomorrows
rejuvenation

Between Two Cultures
Between Two Cultures
I am a person
living between
two cultures
one here
one there
how do I think
how do I feel
this way
or that
what do I say
which language
to use
when one says one thing
and the other
something else
which response
should
come first
the way you think
or
what I see
is
the problem

Napoleon's Tomb Paris
Napoleon's Tomb
Paris
Young girl
across the sea
flew to distant
land to see
Up Eiffel Tower
she climbed
around the Louvre

Searching for learning

driving walking
riding metro

When came upon

Salzburg Bike Ride
Bike Ride
from
Frilassing, Germany
to
Salzburg, Austria
Boarded our bikes
in freezing rain
along the river path
the path it ran
Thru woods and fields
both high and low
puddles and rivers
fast and slow
Our bones they
shivered our hands
quite cold
the river roaring
as the night grew old
After hours of riding
Salzburg we came
had ceased
the rain
the rain
but not the pain
Greek restaurant
we spied
quickly inside
cozy and warm
menu belied
hot soup and beer
soon appeared
happily we ate
food disappeared
Mozart's Festival
begun
could hear Opera
being sung
The Horse Fountain
was near
at Horse paintings
we peered
A magnificent sight
and such a delight
to ride our bikes
around Salzburg
by night

PALM BRANCHES
Palm Branches
Oh Lord,
I love the way the
palm trees
dance
in the wind.
How their trunks
shake and tremble
up and down.
Thank you Lord
for the
waving branches.
For each drop
of rain
created by you
and dropped
down perfectly
on the place
you designated
from the beginning
of time.
You
oh Lord
are in control
of every particle
of life
from waving palm
branches
to
droplets of
rain
being poured
out
upon the earth.
This makes
me
bow
in
awe
of You
and Your
Greatness
Your glory comes
forth in the
Zephyr of Storm
each
tree dancing
its different
dance
created
the way you
called it
forth
for it
to be
made
Dancing
the way
you designed
it to
Dance
This
Ballet of Trees
attracts
my eyes
to your
Glory
A Glory
so astounding
my mind cannot fathom
and then
its
quiet
The ballet over
The costumes
come off
and
lie
upon the ground
The trees stripped
as if you had bathed
them each one
with cloth
in Hand
God's way of cleansing
nature is true
beautiful
glorious
The clouds part
sun glissens
on the now
still branches
that once
paved the way
for Your death
of love
for the world

EVENING CONCERT
Evening Concert
He waves his arms greatly then softly
pushing and pulling the sounds
aloft
A high piccolo touches the roof
whilst cymbals crash.
Comes at last
by the hands of
Maestro
his white baton held
notes linger
He rocks back and forth
slicing the air bringing
vibrations
from little to big
from stretched to blown
air screeching faster, faster
climbing up and down
Maestro
sets the pace
his hair flies round
What pipe speaks now?
What bow pulls
itself up and over
set strings?
A boom together
hedges hearts in
anticipation
of future shocks
Oh the glory of muted sound
asunder and vast crescendos
reaching
hearts a wonder
on the back seats of
Innuendos riding high
the decrescendos
alas
the Sound and Fury
cease

REMBRANDT'S~THE NIGHT WATCH~Reich's Museum Amsterdam Holland
Rembrandt's
The Night Watch
Reich's Museum
Amsterdam
Holland
Before reading this poem please look up the image of
Rembrandt's The Night Watch
study it
then read the poem
When first I stood to see
Night Watch, a hand
thrust out to me
Receiving
my visit
as though real
Another with fowl
upon her belt
looked me in
the eyes
Ah yes
Rembrandt's
wife,
Sakia it be!
Light shining upon faces whilst obscure men
not seen
Leather boots
and feathered hat
could be felt
as real
One man's
"selfie"
gesture
another's gun
an oar
rowing down
the Grand Canal
"How well I've been
received"
and feel apart
but I have
to leave
forever changed
by this
monumental
encounter
